The Astrology of Taylor Swift’s New Album
Plus, some cosmic and witchy lyrics from The Tortured Poets Department
If you’re a fan of Taylor Swift you might know that she dropped a new album The Tortured Poets Department on April 19th. And if you’re a Swiftie you probably know that everything Taylor does is intentional (including when she releases her albums) and I’ve been seeing a lot of people ask the question, why did she choose the April 19th date?
I am someone who is a huge music buff and I love to observe the careers of pop singers and I really love analyzing Taylor’s career because she does things so intentionally and I’m also a fan of her music!
But you can’t look at Taylor’s career without seeing a connection of her love for astrology (she’s an astrology girlie) and her lunar-themed lyrics and imagery (especially eclipses) and also the fact that she releases albums and announces albums on or near eclipses. This is something I even mentioned in my book COSMIC CARE!
The Tortured Poets Department did not release on an eclipse (it’s 12 days after the solar eclipse in Aries) but she did release it on the first day of Taurus season. Taurus is the season of pleasure, presentness, romance, and creativity is linked to the sign as well, so releasing a poetry-themed album with songs about love and past relationships on the first day of Taurus season, does make sense to me.
However, in addition to it aligning with the first day of Taurus season, I think there are two other reasons why Taylor may have picked April 19th for her release date.
The first, April 19th is the Mercury Rx conjunction with Venus. Mercury is the planet of writing, reading, communication, so of course writing poetry is connected to it. But when Mercury Rx conjoins with Venus, one of the things it can represent is closure, especially in the area of love, and Taylor said on her Instagram that this album is the “closing of a chapter.” So this seems really on-theme for the bookish album.
In addition, the other reason I think Taylor may have chosen the April 19th date is there is a Jupiter and Uranus conjunction in Taurus on April 20th that hasn’t happened in 14 years. When Jupiter, the planet of good fortune, joins up with Uranus, the planet of innovation, magic happens. So releasing her album the day before this conjunction could give it an extra touch of good luck.
And in typical Taylor fashion, The Tortured Poets Department is full of cosmic and witchy lyrics and I put some of those that I gathered as images below!
